Steal of a deal

Target has always held an honored place in my heart, but they recently out-shined themselves. Sleepless in Seatlle, $5.

It wasn't even a question in my mind.

Saw, snatched, paid. Smiled.

Eat Your Heart Out

I can officially declare that I have the best brother in the world.

Aside from being everything a big brother should be , he surprised me tonight and had this waiting in the fridge for me

Dare you to beat that. Like I said, best big brother ever.

Closet Conundrum

I got home from work today & stalled before "getting ready." The dreaded getting ready. At the last possible moment, I showered, dried & styled my hair, put on some mascara, then went to hit up my closet.

Every once in awhile this will happen. Suddenly everything you own, every article of clothing you possess, is ugly. Tomorrow you may be able to find something suitable, if not totally cute, but tonight when you really need it, all you see is "been there, done that."

I needed my girls here to pull out some forgotten shirt & match it with a belt & a necklace & send me out the door. In the end though, Mom & I managed.

Happy Birthday, Mom!!

June 18th is my Mom's birthday...unfortunately I will be in the Grand  Canyon instead of celebrating with her. So anyone reading this that has her number, give her a call & sing her your favorite version of Happy Birthday (the more off-key the better!)

My mom is my best friend. I would be lost in this world without her. When I was a little girl I would lock myself in her bedroom & kneel down & pray so hard that when I got to be a big girl I would be just like her. Now I laugh when I look in the mirror & we're standing the same way when we brush our teeth, that we both spell out words in our minds while people are talking to us, & we both sing ourselves to sleep. My mom has sacrificed everything for my brother & me & counted it a blessing. She's a modern day hero.

Happy Birthday. Love you more.

Delilah- Love Someone

I LOVE DELILAH. She's another one of my guilty pleasures, along with Neil Diamond & Celine Dion  :)

Whenever I'm driving at night I always check the clock to see if it's 9:00 yet so I can turn her on my radio. She's kept me company so many nights, it's like she's one of my girlfriends. I'll need to make sure she'll be in Ohio with me when I go, then I won't have to be homesick!

My mom doesn't care for her & constantly makes fun of me for listening. I love it best when my guy friends admit they listen in too. I've tried converting a few to her show, one listen is all it takes. It's so mushy & sappy & corny sometimes, & that's why I love it, because it's real. With all the misery we see everyday on the news & in entertainment, I love to turn on her show & hear the nation's stories of love, hope, courage, & devotion.

I always smile. Sometimes I'll cry.

Sometime this week tune in & "love someone"

I went out for frozen yogurt tonight (a build-your-own deal, I highly enjoyed the tart mango YUMMM) & ended up at a free jazz concert in the park! A little known fact about me: I am a sucker for jazz music. What a perfect Saturday night!

I believe I can, I knew I could

A theme in life of late has been, "I can do hard things."

It was talked about in General Conference, my friends have mentioned it, we say it to inspire & motivate one another. But man, it's hard when you really have to sit yourself down, look yourself in the eye, & say to yourself (maybe repeatedly) "I CAN do hard things."

You know those struggles that come in & out like the tide? Right now I'm dealing with one of those- hoping that I really can overcome, that it's not just talk, ya know?

In my search for strength, I found this talk from President Faust (ya, I ripped his title again, he's just so good at it!) Now, I'm determined to be The Little Engine That Could. I think I'll wear blue this week to remind me!

Friend check

I had to laugh  today when my friend, Day-O, called me. I was driving to the grocery store with my brother, saw her name on the caller id & answered  to the sounds of her giggling. She informed me the call was "just a test" after reading my last post. ha ha ha ha I love her for a million mischievous moments like this.

My cell phone is for MY convenience, not yours.

I'm sorry if this fact bothers you, but just because it's a good time for you to call or text me, does not mean that it's a good time for me. I feel absolutely ZERO obligation to answer my phone just because it's ringing.

This does not mean that I don't like you, that I'm ignoring you, or any of the other 30 worst conclusions you may jump to. It simply means my attention is focused elsewhere & you will need to wait.

If I'm out shopping with my grandma, unless you're my mom, I probably won't answer.

If I'm studying, even if you are my mom, I may not answer.

If I am sitting alone in my apartment enjoying a book, unless I'm quite confident you are more entertaining than the daily delve, it's not likely I'll answer.

I know this attitude puts many of you out. But understand that I did not get a cell phone so that you could have 24/7 access to me. Somedays, I simply turn it off altogether (a very liberating feeling!)

It may take me longer than you'd like, but I WILL get back to you.

Lists are good news in my book.

I have 3 lists kept in my daily planner (that I take everywhere) of books, movies, & music I want.

I also have a list in my planner for items I need for Ohio.

I am currently making a list of everything I already own for Ohio. Right now is the rough draft list, it will later be  itemized, categorized, & split into 3 lists of "Will Take", "DI", & "Leave for Mom to Deal With"

I make study lists, daily task lists, grocery shopping lists, late night can't fall asleep lists...

I just received a new list from OSU of things to do before the start of classes, I smiled REALLY BIG when I got that one

Lists soothe my hyperactive, thrive on stress, sometimes OCD mind.
